Decide on a stock with just its symbol

Ask trading questions about a US stock or ETF without sending any market data: the server fills in the latest completed session.

You'll need
  • Nothing beyond an account: ora1 answers market questions whenever state names a symbol.
  1. Write the questions you trade on

    Plain English, one outcome per question, with a horizon: “Will the stock be higher in a week?”, “Will it drop at least 5% at some point in the next month?”, “Will volume spike tomorrow?”. Browse Examples → Financial for many more.

  2. Send only the symbol

    Set state to {"symbol": "TSLA"} and leave out context:

    {
      "model": "ora1",
      "state": {
        "symbol": "TSLA"
      },
      "questions": {
        "up_week": {
          "type": "yes_no",
          "instructions": "Will the stock be higher in a week?"
        },
        "drop5": {
          "type": "yes_no",
          "instructions": "Will it drop at least 5% at some point in the next month?"
        }
      }
    }
    Open this in the Playground
  3. Check which data was used

    The response adds "context": {"source": "server", "symbol": "TSLA", "as_of": "…"}: the session the answer is based on. Numbers are refreshed after each close (about 16:40 and 20:40 New York time); during the trading day you get the previous session.

  4. Know the coverage

    About 2,000 liquid US stocks and ETFs. For anything else you get a 422 that says so; send your own numbers in state.context instead (see Ask by symbol).
